Party Planning Tips

The best parties are those that are planned meticulously in advance. Try out the following tips to make your event a gala affair.
Menu Planning : While planning a menu-combine into your menu a rice dish, an entree (main dish)& a salad or raita. You may include parathas too. A good menu should generally cater to the sweet and spicy tastes, say when your main dish is spicy, choose a raita that is sweet. this way you can ensure that your guests don`t end up eating only spicy or only sweet food. Also never make just one dish. If that one dish fails to appease your guests taste buds, they`ll go home hungry.
Keeping Greens Fresh: Leafy vegetables die within a couple of days even when kept in refrigerator. To keep them fresh for a longer period of time, clean & wrap them in paper. Refrigerate this bundle and the vegetables will remain fresh for a longer time.
Prepare a list of the things you need to do and prioritize. This will include shopping for ingredients and special items.
Keeping the work area clean : Work in a clean and uncluttered space. This will help you organize your thoughts better. It may mean clearing up the counter and table top space but it
will be worth it.
Reading cooking steps ahead of time : Many a times reading the recipe and familiarizing yourself with the cooking method is a great way of starting out.
Following the recipe to the T : Try a recipe once, the way it is recommended the first time. Make changes as you see fit the next time, this way you can taste the recipe as it was meant to be cooked.
Pre-tasting a recipe : Try to taste the recipe in a restaurant as you will have some idea of how it should taste.
Jotting down "Unusual items" : Make a list of the "special" or "unusual" items to your regular grocery list. Keep this list on your refrigerator as you plan your menu.
Shopping ahead : Shop for all ingredients and items needed the week before.
Fermentation of Dosa batter : If you live in a centrally air conditioned flat and want to make dosas, keep the dosa batter overnight in the microwave (switched off, of course), as the interior of the microwave will be warmer than the rest of the house. Also, a pinch of sugar into the batter gives a lovely brown color to the dosa.

PRE-PREPARATION
Decorative Biryani Rice : While making Veg/Non-Veg Biryani, you can cook rice earlier, cool it and divide it into 3 portions - make each of a different color e.g Indian tricolor - coriander or palak rice can be bottom layer, then the biryani gravy with some nuts, middle layer white rice, then again biryani gravy with some nuts and the top layer can be kesar rice which will give the saffron color. It really looks very decorative and adds flavor to the dish.
To make soft tomatoes regain their hardness, put them in cold water to which a litre of salt is added. The tomatoes will turn hard in 10 mins.
Ginger Garlic Paste Freshness : Mix a pinch of salt to the Ginger/Garlic paste and refrigerate it for a fresh cooking . Paste will last longer and fresh for months.
Pre-prepare Ginger & Garlic paste : When you have free time, use it to prepare a bottle of ginger garlic paste, which can be used to be used later while cooking.
Making tasty Dosa: To make tasty dosas and idlis add a tsp of methi (fenugreek)seeds with the rice and dal when soaking.
Freezing Fresh Ginger : Then you buy fresh ginger, freeze it. When you need to use it use a cheese grater to get required amount u need, put rest back in freezer.
Pre-Preparing Masalas: Pre-Prepare most of your "masalas" ahead of time.
Defrosting First: First things first....Defrost the frozen foods first, then go on to doing the other cooking.
Safe Defrosting: Defrost sealed frozen food in the refrigerator on a plate instead of on your kitchen counter to prevent bacteria.
Prepare portions of a meal in advance: If there is a masala or paste or chopping of nuts that you can do a day ahead, do so as it will reduce the cooking time.
Methi pre-prepare for future use: If you are a fan of fresh methi (fenugreek leaves) then on a weekend you can clean them up and place the methi in a freezer ziploc bag and freeze it. It can be stored for months. You can use this to make a quick methi aloo accompanied with some sweet raita at time of emergency .
Cooking
Crispy Samosas:To make crispy samosas add 1 tsp of rice flour to 1 cup of maida.
Crispy Pakoras: For crispy pakoras add little hot oil in the batter before frying.
Browning Onions: Add a little salt, onions become brown faster.
Quickly cooking half cooked rice: When you find that the rice which you are going to serve is not fully cooked, and you cannot add water again then ... add a small quantity of milk to it and steam it for some time the rice becomes soft without becoming smudgy.
Frying Fish: Put in a pinch of salt in the oil before frying a fish. The fish will not get stuck to the frying pan.
Frying: Always fry on a low or medium flame for even cooking.

Double or triple the recipe: if you are making an exclusive dish. This way you can divide it up and save some for another meal.
Cook a day ahead: Many Indian dishes can be made ahead of time. Store the food in Ziploc bags or your serving containers. In fact some of the dishes taste better the next day. For Example: Biryani. Use the double-bag ziploc freezer bags as they are frost resistant.
Store extra servings: Use Ziploc freezer boxes and bags.
Storing leftover rice: Rice is best stored in containers that can be re-heated.
Handy Dishtowel: Pull a dishtowel or rag partially through the belt loop on your jeans/sari. The towel is handy to wipe your hands on at any time, and you don`t have to keep looking for one when you need it most.
Ingredient Readiness: While cooking a dish, have all the ingredients on the counter top so that you don`t miss out on any of the ingredients.
Cleaning
Keeping the cooker clean: To keep the inside of the cooker clean place a lemon piece in the cooker while using.
Cleaning Turmeric Stains : Clean the turmeric stained area with few drops of lime juice. The acidic content will clear the surface.
Stained Coffee pot: You can clean the inner sides of the stained coffee pot with the egg shells. (dont throw away the boiled eggs shell). Be careful when you are cleaning.
Keeping cooking range clean: Put a Aluminium Foil on the Cooking Range top so that if there are any spills while cooking, it can be easily cleaned by simply replacing the foil.
Cleaning of Ginger: Ginger can be soaked over night and next day morning clean it with a tooth brush (with a tooth brush you can clean each and every corner) blend it and keep it in the fridge. this can be used anytime.
Assigning everyone tasks: If there are others in your house hold assign each person a specific task for the clean up. For example picking up the dishes or putting away the left overs or cleaning the table etc.
Individual servings for later: Store the left over in individual containers for future use.
Removing Ink stains: If you want to remove an "ink stain" you should wash it with unboiled milk.
Clearing a clogged sink : Clogged sinks can be unclogged in an hour when a cup of hot water mixed with a tablespoon of white vinegar and a teaspoon or two of baking soda is poured into the sink.

Gunman holds 23 children, teacher in US classroom

Chicago: A student armed with a handgun held nearly two dozen students and a teacher hostage in a Wisconsin high school for about five hours before shooting himself when police broke into the classroom, authorities said Monday. No other injuries were reported.
Officers who were outside the Marinette High School classroom said they heard three gunshots shortly after 8 p.m. and busted through the door, said Police Chief Jeff Skorik. The 15-year-old male gunman then shot himself.
Skorik said the teen was taken to an area hospital and his condition was not immediately known Monday night.
Five of the 23 students who had been taken hostage about 3 p.m. had been released about 20 minutes before police entered the classroom because they told the gunman they had to use the bathroom, Skorik said.

The other 18 students and the female teacher, who had acted as a mediator between the male hostage-taker and authorities, were released unharmed once officers were inside.

Skorik said the gunman had refused to communicate with officials during the standoff, but allowed the teacher to speak with authorities by phone.

21 st Century Krisna...

..B_Happy...

...BEG_BORROW_OR_STEAL..
...21st Century Krisna...
Bhagavat Gita – 19th Chapter
Arjun: Hey Vasudev,
how can I do the most heidous and unpardonable act of forwarding
junk mail that I receive,
to my friends,
relatives and revered elders?
Krishna: Hey Paartha,
at this moment, none of them is your friend or foe,
relative or in-law, young or old and good or evil.
You have no escape from following your Net-Dharma.
Make haste to log on and send off the junk mail to one and all.
That is the only Karma expected of you and Dharma you must follow.
Arjun: Hey Murari !
Do not implore me to do something that pricks my conscience and stirs my soul.
Krishna: O Kunti-Puthra,
you are caught in the vicious circle of the Maya.
In this material world, you are committed to no one except to yourself,
your Dharma and your mouse.
Junk mails have existed for the last 25 years and will remain
long after you are gone.
Rise above the Maya and perform your bounden duty.
Arjun: Lord Krishna,
pray and enlighten me on how junk mail is related to the Maya.
Krishna: Vatsa,
junk mail is the 6th element in the universe –
Aap, Vaayu, Jal, Agni, Aakaash and Junk Mail.
It is at the same time animate and inanimate, living and dead beat.
It overloads the system and fills up the hard disk.
But it serves one great purpose.
It leads people to believe that they are filling their time
in an intellectual pursuit by reading and reforwarding junk mail.
It gives them a sense of achievement without investing their intellect and efforts. Like the Atman that leaves one’s physical body and moves on to another,
the junk mail moves from system to system and never gets deleted or dies.
Arjun: Great Giridhaari,
kindly tell me what the true attributes of junk mail are.
Krishna: Neither fire can burn it,
nor air can evaporate it.
Neither can it be conquered nor can it be defeated.
Junk mail is omnipresent and immortal like your noble and eternal soul.
Unlike an arrow shot from your bow,
many a time the junk mail forwarded by you,
will even return to you safely after some months or even years,
allowing you to re-re-forward it to the same people.
Arjun: Great Saarathi,
my salutations to you.
You have opened my eyes to the cult of junk mail.
I was lost in the Maya and have been reading all the junk mail that I keep receiving and doing no other Karma.
Now on, I will just press the "Forward" button without reading any of it
and send it to all and sundry,
friends and foes, relatives and in-laws, young and old.
That will surely bring them to their knees in this epochal battle of
Good against Evil, in the Kurukshetra.
Krishna: Arjuna,
victory or defeat is not in your hands.
Do not ponder over the fruits of your labour.
Just keep forwarding junk mail and make one and all go
bananas reading it and you will have done your supreme duty.
Tathastu.
Thus Spoke
Lord Krishna.

MAKEOVER MADAM

This photo below was taken at a competition
involving nine women for best makeover.
They had every possible beauty treatment available to them over a period of twelve hours before the contest.

Look at the before and after photos.  Conclusion - there are no ugly women only poor women. The (poor) woman 2nd from the left won the contest.

God, One more chance please !!!

my dear.....& respected

nothing to say but...

----
God, One more chance please !!

It's another morning....  I have to go to office.
WHAT???? This is me!!! I shouted seeing my picture in the newspaper. But what the HELL is it doing in the obituary column??
Strange......
One sec... Let me think, last night when I went to bed I had severe pain in my chest, but I don't remember anything after that, I think I had a very sound sleep.
Its morning now, oh... It's already 10:00 AM, where is my coffee? I will be late for office and my boss will get a chance to shout at me.
"Where is everyone?" I screamed.
"I think there is a crowd outside my room, let me check." I said to myself.
So many people... Not all of them are crying. But why are some of them crying.
WHAT IS THIS??? I'm lying there on a bed in the drawing room!!!!
"I AM HERE”. I shouted!!! No one listened.
"LOOK I AM NOT DEAD”. I screamed once again!!! No one was interested in me.
They were all looking at me lying on the bed.
I went back to my bed room.
"Am I dead??"  I asked myself.
Where are my wife, my children, my mom-dad, my friends?
I found them in the next room, all of them were crying. Still trying to console each other.
My wife was crying. She was really looking sad.
My little kid was not sure what happened, but he was crying just because his mom was sad.
How can I go without telling my kid that I really love him, I really do care for him....??
How can I go without telling my wife that she is really the most beautiful and the most caring wife in this world..??
How can I go without telling my parents that I am what I am just because of them...??
How can I go without telling my friends that without them, perhaps I would have done wrong things in life- thanks for being there always
when I needed them. And sorry for not being there when they really needed me..
I can see a person standing in the corner and trying to hide his tears. Oh, he was once my best friend, but a small misunderstanding made us part, and we both never let go off our egos....
I went there.. And offered him my hand, "Dear friend. I just want to say sorry for everything, we are still good friends, please forgive me."
No response from other side, what the hell?? He is still preserving his ego. I am saying sorry, even then!!! I really don't care for such people.
But one sec.. It seems he is not able to see me!!!! He did not see my extended hand.
My goodness.  AM I REALLY DEAD???
I just sat down next to MYSELF; I also felt like crying.
"OH GOD!!!! PLEASE GIVE ME FEW MORE DAYS."
I just want to tell my wife, my parents, my kid and my friends how much I love them.
My wife entered the room, she looks beautiful.
"YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL" I shouted.
She didn't hear my words, in fact she has never heard these words from me, because I have never told her.
"GOD!!!!" I screamed. a little more time plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.. I cried.
One more chance please-to hug my child, to make my mom smile.. just once, to make my dad feel proud of me at least for a moment..., to say sorry to my friends for everything I have not told and done for them-in spite of that for still being there for me..
Then I looked up and cried!!!!
I shouted..
"GOD!!!! ONE MORE CHANCE PLEASE!!!!"
"You shouted in your sleep," said my wife as she gently woke me up. "Did you have a nightmare?"
I was sleeping..??!!!
Oh that was just a dream..??!!
My wife was there. She could hear me.
This was the happiest moment in my life!!
I hugged her and whispered.. "U R THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND CARING WIFE IN
THIS UNIVERSE.. I REALLY LOVE U DEAR"
I just couldn't  understand that in spite of a smile on her face she had tears in her eyes...

I was so HAPPY!!!!!
"THANK YOU GOD FOR GIVING ME ANOTHER CHANCE!!!"
It's not late.. Forget your egos, forget all that has happened....., and just express your love to others.... Be friendly..... Keep smiling and be happy for ever.

WEBSITES THAT CHANGED THE INTERNET

There are millions of websites out there. Many of them are unique, either in small ways or in large ones. But the individual impact of any particular site on the overall Internet is generally negligible, if there’s any impact at all.

Not so with the fifteen sites here. These sites changed the Internet, mostly for good, in substantial ways. Included here is everything from Geocities(which could probably be blamed entirely, either directly or indirectly, for every ugly web design “trend” that’s ever been) to Wikipedia (which has made information almost universally accessible) to Google (which has changed or influenced virtually everything online).

1. Wikipedia

Changed the way we find information. Before Wikipedia, most online encyclopedias were either sorely lacking in information, or required you to have a paid subscription to access their content. Wikipedia changed all that by not only allowing anyone to view the content for free, but also by allowing individual users to review and update content, making it more complete and accurate overall. Wikipedia also brought crowdsourcing and user-generated content to the mainstream online, making both much more viable and valuable.

2. Amazon.com

Changed the way we shop. Prior to Amazon.com, online shopping wasn’t much different than shopping out of a mail-order catalog, except it wasn’t nearly as popular. While Amazon started out selling just books and related items, it has expanded to sell virtually anything you can think of, either directly or through partner sites large and small. Amazon also made free shipping a standard on orders over a certain dollar value, which has impacted the shipping rates and policies of many other online retailers.

3. Hotmail

Changed the way we use email. Before Hotmail came along, email was basically tethered to a single computer. When you checked your email, it was pulled and deleted from the remote server, meaning the only place you could view it was at your computer. Need an email at home that you received at work? Too bad. There was no way to access it unless you went back to the office. Hotmail changed all that by providing webmail that could be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Now, web-based email is widely used and provided by a huge variety of providers. Even though Hotmail is no longer the primary provider of webmail (and is now owned by Microsoft), they were still pioneers in the technology.

5. Project Gutenberg

Changed the way we read. Project Gutenberg has a much longer history than most people realize. They created the first ebooks, and gave them away for free. You can now read virtually every major book in the public domain, sometimes in multiple languages on their site. Without the pioneering steps the founders of Project Gutenberg took, ebooks would not be where they are today.

6. Twitter

Changed the way we communicate. Twitter has made one of the biggest impacts on the Internet in recent memory. The idea that 140-character messages, broadcast publicly (for the most part), would change the way people communicate with one another would have been hard to believe ten years ago. But Twitter has become not just a powerhouse in the way individual communicate with one another, but also in the way businesses communicate with their customers. Complaining about poor customer service on Twitter can often result in almost instant messages from the company in question, and often results in a satisfactory resolution. Twitter has also made celebrities more accessible, with hundreds of celebs now using the service to interact with their fans.

7. Pandora

Changed the way we find new music. Before Pandora, if you wanted to listen to music online, you usually turned to a streaming radio station with pre-programmed content. Sure, you might get lucky and find a station that had mostly music you liked, but maybe it wasn’t diverse enough, or it still kept playing that one song you HATED. Pandora changed all that. Now, you can program your own radio station by just entering the name or a song or artist and then giving the thumbs up or down to music played. With a minimal amount of user input, Pandora has gotten surprisingly good at creating playlists that reflect one’s musical taste. The bonus is that songs or artists you might not have heard of are often thrown into the mix, based on what you already like.

8. Apple

Made minimalist web design cool. Apple had one of the first corporate websites designed with a minimalist aesthetic. As far back as the late 90s, Apple was starting to show a more minimalist take on web design than many other corporate sites, and by early 2000, they’d adopted the white and gray color scheme and top navigation they still employ today.

9. YouTube

Changed entertainment. Before YouTube, there weren’t many options if you wanted to watch a video online. You could sometimes find a video here or there, but with bandwidth costs, they were few and far between. Website owners just didn’t want to pay the extra costs associated with video content. Then YouTube came along and made it free to post any video you wanted (as long as it wasn’t copyrighted or over ten minutes long). Web users now had a centralized place to go to watch video online. And because of YouTube’s pioneering effort, online video is now enjoyed by millions every day.

10. Craigslist

Changed classifieds. Online classified sites used to be nearly unusable. Between the huge number of spam postings and the fact there were few if any local listings in most areas, there wasn’t much point in using them. But then Craigslist caught on and suddenly there was an online classifieds site that rivaled most local newspaper classifieds. Now you can use Craigslist to find almost anything, no matter where you live.

11. The Drudge Report

Changed the stature of online news. When the Monica Lewinsky/President Clinton story broke in 1998, it wasn’t a mainstream news source that first reported it. Instead, The Drudge Report held those honors, forever changing the standing of online news sources. Now, online news sources break stories on a regular basis, and are considered by most to be just as reliable as television or print news sources.
