This is the day all of India has been waiting for. The day of hard talks. President Barack Obama will meet the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Hyderabad House at 11 am to discuss some key issues that are likely to define the future of Indo-US bilateral ties.
On the agenda today at the talks:
The current menace of terrorism
Lifting of export restrictions on hi-tech items and ban on export of dual-use technology
H1B visa fee increase
Next step to the Indo-US nuke deal
The President and PM will then issue a joint statement to the media at 11.15am. More
India and the United States finalised at least four agreements – on shale gas reserves, weather forecasting, health and energy cooperation programme – which are likely to be signed after the bilateral talks between Prez Obama and PM Singh this afternoon. Read more
Obama will meet the Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj at 4.25pm and Congress President Sonia Gandhi at 4.45pm
The President will address a joint session of Parliament at 5.30 pm. Whether he meets myriad’s expectations or not, the speech is likely to be “forward-looking” and will chart out his vision for the future of Indo-US ties.
On his final leg of the trip, he will meet President Pratibha Patil at 7pm, followed by the state dinner at 8pm.
